Born In Belfast

Vikela was founded on the idea that people in dangerous jobs and living in dangerous places deserve to be protected. Founded in Belfast, Northern Ireland, where there is a fresh history of conflict, Vikela aims to write a new chapter.

We are developing new manufacturing technologies to put Northern Ireland at the forefront of innovation. Creating a way of looking forward to a brighter future that has been grown from a troubled past.

Vikela was founded in July 2020 after receiving a £10,000 initial grant from TechStart. This allowed for the initial development of our manufacturing technology and further understanding of the limitations of other methods.

After a year of research and development, we were awarded an InnovateUK grant of £500,000 to take our MVP and develop it to be ready for scaling. This allowed the team to grow in number and momentum to build within the business.

Since receiving the grant Vikela has won the Catalyst Invent competition, secured patents, developed its tech and is now launching its first product, the APIS protection range. We trust our product with our lives, and are ready to show the world the true benefits of human-centred design.
